1. Information We Collect

When you use Ontolize, we collect information you provide directly:

• Account information: name, email, username, password hash, and profile details you add.
• Structured life data: moments, chapters, tastes, pursuits, connections, and notes you create.
• People context: who you know, how you know them, and relationship context you add.
• Private structure: entries and fields you keep private but still use to make your own model more useful.

We also collect usage data automatically:

• Minimal analytics events: account sessions and whether onboarding, entries, connections, or comparisons completed. These events do not include entry content or private notes.

2. How We Use Your Data

• To run the core product surfaces for Moments, People, Tastes, Pursuits, and Chapters.
• To reflect your own structure back to you through summaries, shared context, and recommendations.
• To support explicit compare/connect flows and people relevance based on real overlap and recent context.
• To improve the product based on aggregated usage patterns.
• To send you service emails such as login, password reset, and account notices.

We never sell your personal data to third parties.

3. Visibility Controls

Your portrait and entries are private by default. Nothing you write is visible to another person unless you explicitly choose to share it.

• Private notes are author-only and are not returned to another user, included in Resonance, or sent in invitations.
• Linking a People entry to an Ontolize account does not automatically share the entry or its connected entries.
• Entry sharing is a separate, explicit choice and can be limited to a title or include the entry body.
• Resonance uses eligible portrait entries only in an explicit comparison flow. It never uses private notes.

4. Age Requirement

Ontolize is for people age 16 and older. Signup requires you to confirm that you meet this requirement.

5. Data Retention & Deletion

You can delete your account at any time from Settings. This permanently removes all your personal data, moments, memories, pursuits, people data, and profile structure. Some anonymized analytics data may be retained for product improvement.

6. Data Security

Passwords are hashed using bcrypt. Data is transmitted over HTTPS. We use industry-standard security practices to protect your information.

7. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

• Google Places API: for location search when attaching places to moments and related flows.
• Resend: for transactional email delivery.
• Railway / Vercel: for hosting and database services.
